Are You Trapped in Conformity?
So, are you trapped in conformity? I hope not, sincerely. The whole philosophy behind this blog and the way I live my life is to do what you hold true in your heart. Hence, being unique. What a sad world it would be if we all felt pressured to do the same things in the same way, every day. We all know the saying: variety is the spice of life. What a simple yet truthful exclamation. It takes true courage to say no to societal norms because it makes us seem different which can lead to fear of being judged. One of my biggest phobias (it takes a lot for me to publish my posts for fear of criticism), but the rational side of me knows that I need not care what others think. It seems like common sense, but even as adults, sometimes you have to hear the words. If you want to practice hot room yoga although your friends all run, practice yoga. If you want to wear flats because stilettos hurt your feet, wear the flats. If your family follows a certain lifestyle, don’t worry about what others think when you politely say no certain foods at an event. If you decide you and your family unplug at 7:00, which means you cannot respond to that slew of emails and Facebook posts, so be it! The list of examples goes on and on. Ultimately, do what is right for you and your family. Look within yourself to find the courage that I know you possess to do what feels right for you, and not to conform to what everyone else is doing. Variety IS the spice of life! If others are put off by your choices and do not respect them, maybe it’s time for you to reevaluate those relationships.
Let me know what you think? Can you break away from the crowd and do what’s in your heart? Is it easy to be true to yourself?
